Mundra Thermal Power Station

Mundra Thermal Power Station is situated at Mundra in the Kutch district in the state of Gujarat in India. The power station is one among the coal-fired power plants of Adani Power. It is the planet’s eleventh largest single locality coal-fuelled thermal power plant as well as country's second major operational power plant.

Mundra Thermal Power Project is commissioned in 2009 May. The Approved Capacity of this thermal power plant is 4620 Megawatt. The Installed capacity is 4620 Megawatt. The status of this power station is Operational. The source of coal for the production of power from Mundra Thermal Plant is imported from Bunyu, Indonesia. The water source is Sea Water from the Gulf of Kutch. The primary fuel used for the production of power is coal. The owner of this thermal power plant is Adani Power. The beneficiary states of this thermal power plant are Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. The Unit Sizes of this thermal power plant are (5 units of 660 Megawatt and 4 units of 330 Megawatt). There are nine units in operation from four stages. They are from Unit 1 to Unit 9.

In Stage 1, there are two units – first and second, the first unit is commissioned in 2009 May with an installed capacity of 330 Megawatt and the second unit is commissioned in 2010 with an installed capacity of 330 Megawatt. In Stage 2 there is also 2 units – third and fourth, the third unit is commissioned in 2010 July with an installed capacity of 330 Megawatt. The fourth unit is commissioned in 2010 November with an installed capacity of 330 Megawatt. In stage 3 there are 2 units – fifth and sixth, the fifth unit is commissioned in 2010 December with an installed capacity of 660 Megawatt. The sixth unit is commissioned in 2011 June with an installed capacity of 660 Megawatt. In stage 4, there are 3 units – seventh, eighth and ninth. The seventh unit is commissioned in 2011 October with an installed capacity of 660 Megawatt. The eighth unit is commissioned in 2012 with an installed capacity of 660 Megawatt. The ninth unit is commissioned in 2012 March with an installed capacity of 660 Megawatt. Thus there is a total of Nine units with installed capacity of 4620 Megawatt.

How to Reach: The power plant is located at Mundra of Kutch district which is about 61 kilometres south of Bhuj city. The plant is located near to NH 8A, that is closer to sea. The Gandhidham railway station is the nearest railway station, which is about 50 kilometre away from the power station. Bhuj Airport is the nearest airport, which is about 70 km away from Power Station.
