Utran Gas Based Power Station

Utran Gas Based Power Station is erected at the Coast of Tapi River in the Surat city of Gujarat. The power plant fall under the category of gas power plant. It came under the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited. There are two projects – Combined Cycle Power Plant - 1 and Combined Cycle Power Plant - 2. In CCPP – 1, there are 3 gas turbine units of 30 Megawatt and 1 steam turbine unit of 45 Megawatt. So the total installed capacity of CCPP – 1 is 135 Megawatt. In CCPP – 2, the installed capacity is 375 Megawatt.

Utran Gas Based Power Station is commissioned in 1992 December. The approved capacity of this power plant is 510 Megawatt. The installed capacity of this thermal power plant is also 510 Megawatt. The Status of Utran Gas Based Power station is Operational. The water source for this gas based power station is Tapi River. The primary fuel used for the generation of power is Natural Gas. The power plant is owned and operated by the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited. The beneficiary states of this thermal power plant are Gujarat and its neighbouring states.

The unit size of this thermal power plant is 510 Megawatt (30 Megawatt x 3 units + 45 Megawatt x 1 unit + 228 Megawatt x 1 unit + 147 Megawatt x 1 unit). There are six units from two stages are operational. In Stage 1, four units from first to fourth unit is commissioned and in Stage 2, two units including unit 5 and unit 6 are commissioned.

The first unit is commissioned in 1992 December 17 with an installed capacity of 30 Megawatt using Gas Turbine. After that the second unit is commissioned in 1992 December 28 with an installed capacity of 30 Megawatt using Gas Turbine. Similarly the third unit is commissioned in 1993 May 7 with an installed capacity of 30 Megawatt using Gas Turbine. The fourth unit is commissioned in 1993 July 17 with an installed capacity of 45 Megawatt using Steam Turbine. The fifth unit is commissioned in 2009 July 10 with an installed capacity of 228 Megawatt using Gas Turbine. Finally the sixth unit is commissioned in 2009 November 8 with an installed capacity of 147 Megawatt using Steam Turbine.
