Ukai Thermal Power Station
Ukai Thermal Power Station, which is under the control and management of Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited is a power plant with an installed and approved capacity of 850 Megawatt. It is one among the Gujarat's foremost coal fuelled power station, situated near the basin of the Tapi River. It is positioned on the bank of river, Tapi. A hydroelectric power station is located with the same name near to this thermal power plant. Also the Unit 1 of Ukai Thermal Power Station is the first power station unit in india which erected a plant unit with capacity of more than 100 Megawatt.
Ukai Thermal Power Station is commissioned in March 1976. It has an approved capacity of 1110 Megawatt. The installed capacity is also 1110 Megawatt. The status of this thermal power station is Operational. The primary fuel used for the generation of power from Ukai Thermal Power Station is Coal. The type of plant is Subcritical. This thermal power plant is owned and operated by the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited. The beneficiary states of this thermal power is Gujarat and its neighbouring states. The Unit Sizes of this thermal power plant are 1110 Megawatt (200 MW x 2 units + 210 MW x 1 unit + 500 MW x 1 unit).
There are four units in Operational. They are from Unit 3 to Unit 6. Unit 1 and Unit 2 are retired. The above six units are commissioned in two stages. In first stage, the Unit 1 to Unit 5 is commissioned and in second stage, Unit 6 is commissioned. The first unit and second unit is commissioned in March 1976 and June 1976 respectively with an installed capacity of 120 Megawatt for each unit. Both of the units was later retired in 2017. The third and fourth unit is commissioned in January 1979 and September 1979 respectively with an installed capacity of 200 Megawatt for each unit. Finally the fifth unit of Stage 1 is commissioned in January 1985 with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. In Stage 2, sixth unit is commissioned in March 2013 with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt.
