Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station

Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station is commissioned in 2014 March 31. The approved capacity of the thermal power plant is 800 Megawatt and the installed capacity is also 800 Megawatt. The status of the power plant is Operational. The primary fuel used is coal. The source of coal for the generation of power is Domestic coal from Talcher Coalfield and also from the imported coal and that too in the ratio of 70:30. While the source of water is from Sea Water and potable water by desalination. The power plant is using the Super Critical Technology. The owner of the power plant is Andhra Pradesh Power Development Company Limited, India.

The Engineering, Procurement and Construction contract of the power plant is given to Bharat Heavy Electricals limited, Larsen & Toubro, Tata Projects Limited and for BOP during February 2009. The EPC works include Boiler Manufacture, Turbine Manufacture, Generator Manufacture and also the entire plant. The beneficiary states of this, Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah thermal power station are Andhra Pradesh and its nearby states. The international assistance is 80 % debt and 20 % equity funded by PFC and KfW, Germany. Also the approved investment is INR 8432 Crores.

The unit size of the thermal power plant is 1600 Megawatt (800 Megawatt x 2 units). There are two units in Operation and one unit in construction. The unit 1 and unit 2 is built in first stage and unit 3 is in construction in second stage. The first unit is commissioned in 2014 March 31 with an installed capacity of 800 Megawatt. After that the second unit is commissioned in 2014 December 16 with an installed capacity of 800 Megawatt. The third unit has an approved capacity of 800 Megawatt and is under construction, which is yet to be commissioned.
