Southern Thermal Power Station
Southern Thermal Power Station is a coal-based thermal power plant located in Kolkata in the Indian state of West Bengal. The power plant is operated by the Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation Limited. It has an installed capacity of 135 Megawatt (2 x 67.5 Megawatt). It became fully operational in 1990.
The name of the project is Southern Thermal Power Station. The project was commissioned in 12 August 1990. The Approved Capacity of this thermal power plant is 135 Megawatt. The installed capacity is also 135 Megawatt. The status of this thermal plant is Operational. The source of water for the cooling of power plant is from Hooghly River. The primary fuel used is Coal and the secondary fuel used is Fuel Oil. The type of plant is Sub Critical Thermal power plant. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited otherwise called as BHEL is the manufacturer of Boiler, Turbine and Generator for the plant. The Owner and Operator of the thermal power plant is Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation. The whole plant is now under the control of RP Goenka Group. The beneficiary states of this thermal power plant are West Bengal and its neighbouring states.
The Unit Sizes of this thermal power plant is 135 Megawatt (2 x 67.5 Megawatt). There are two units in operation. They are first and second units. The first unit is commissioned in 1990 August 12 with an installed capacity of 67.5 Megawatt. Similarly the second unit is commissioned in 1991 April 10 with an installed capacity of 67.5 Megawatt.
