Rourkela Thermal Power Plant

NSPCL (NTPC-SAIL Power Company Limited) is a joint venture establishment of NTPC Limited and SAIL, involved in power generation mainly to see the captive power necessity of several steel plants of SAIL all over India. It is one among the established group III profit making Indian PSEs.

Rourkela Thermal Power Plant is commissioned in 1987. The approved capacity of this Rourkela Thermal Power Plant is 120 Megawatt and Installed capacity is 120 Megawatt. The status of this thermal plant is Operational. The primary fuel used for the generation of power is Coal. The type of Coal used is Bituminous. This plant is owned by a joint venture of National Thermal Power Corporation Limited and Steel Authority of India. The beneficiary states of this thermal power plant are Chhattisgarh and Odisha. The shareholders of this power station were NTPC and SAIL.

There are two units in operation and they are Unit 1 and Unit 2. Unit 3 is under construction. Unit 1 was commissioned with an installed capacity of 60 Megawatt and the Unit 2 was commissioned with an installed capacity of 60 Megawatt. Unit 3 is Under Construction with an approved capacity of 250 Megawatt.

Rourkela Captive Power Plant

NTPC Ltd made joint venture with SAIL on a contract of fifty-fifty basis in March 2001 in the designation of NTPC-SAIL Power Company Private Limited (NSPCL). NSPCL has taken the captive power plant-II situated at Rourkela Steel Plant (2X60 Megawatt) from Steel Authority of India Limited.

Objective

To supply power to Rourkela Steel Plant of SAIL and NTPC Limited from its coal based confined power plant - II at Rourkela of Orissa of about 120 Megawatt from unit 1 and unit 2 on captive basis. The Rourkela Thermal Power Plant is ISO 9001: 2000 certified.

Rourkela Power Plant-II Expansion (1x250 MW)

Rourkela Power Plant-II Expansion Power Project is being taken up by NTPC-SAIL Power Company Limited in order to see the upcoming power necessity of Rourkela Steel Plant. Environment Authorisation for the Scheme has been received on the month of May in 2015. Investment authorisation for the Project has been permitted by NSPCL Panel on the month of May in 2016. EPC package has been granted to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited on the month of May in 2016. The planned operation date of thermal power plant is in the month of December in 2018.
