Raichur Thermal Power Station
Raichur Thermal Power Station is a coal fuelled power station erected in the Raichur district of Karnataka in India. It is organised by the KPCL and is the first thermal power plant to be erected in Karnataka. The power station was commissioned during several stages from 1986 to 2013 and it generates the 40 percentage of total needed electricity in Karnataka.
Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) is commissioned in 1986. The approved capacity of the power plant is 1720 Megawatt and the installed capacity is also 1720 Megawatt. The status of the thermal power plant is also Operational. The primary fuel used for the generation of power is Coal. The source of coal is from Western Coalfields Limited and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited. The plant is using the Sub Critical technology. The owner of the power plant is Karnataka Power Corporation. The Turbine Manufacturer of the power plant are Kraftwerk Union AG (KWU) and Mitsubishi. The Generator Manufacturer is Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL). The beneficiary states of the thermal power plant are Karnataka and its neighbouring states.
The Unit Sizes of the thermal power plant is 1720 Megawatt (210 Megawatt x 7 units, 250 Megawatt x 1 unit). There are eight units in operation that built in four Stages. They are from Unit 1 to Unit 8. In Stage 1, the first and second units are commissioned in 1986 itself with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt for each units. While in Stage 2, the third and fourth units are commissioned in 1994 itself with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt for each units. In Stage 3, the fifth and sixth units are commissioned in 1999 itself with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt for each units. In Stage 4, the seventh and eighth units are commissioned in the years, 2002 and 2013 respectively. The seventh unit has an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt and the eighth unit has an installed capacity of 250 Megawatt.
