NTPL Thermal Power Station
NTPL Thermal Power Station is a 1000 MW (2×500 MW) coal fired thermal plant in the city of Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu. The power project is a jointly operated by the TANGEDCO and NLC India Limited. The all units of the power plant were commissioned in the months of March and April in 2015, respectively.
NTPL Thermal Power Station is commissioned in March 2015. It has an approved capacity of 1000 Megawatt and the installed capacity is 1000 Megawatt. The status of the power plant is Operational. The primary fuel used is Coal and the source of coal for the generation of power is from Mahanadi Coalfields (70%) and the imported Coal from Indonesia (30%). The source of water for the cooling of Thermal Power Plant is Sea Water (closed loop system), which is blow down to sustain water quality. The Demineralised water is sourced from Desalination Plant Output and Mixed Bed Unit. The Ash of the plant is collected dry and is well disposed.
The coal type is Lignite, while is grinded to fine particles and is used as a fuel for the plant. The power plant is owned and operated jointly by the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) and Neyveli Lignite Corporation (NLC). The equity ratio of both NLA and TANGEDCO would be 89:11 respectively.The plant is using Sub Critical Technology. The beneficiary states of this Thermal Power Plant are Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Pondicherry, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The Unit Sizes of the thermal power plant is 1000 Megawatt (500 Megawatt x 2 units).
There are two units in Operation and they are first and second units. The first unit is commissioned in March with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt. Similarly the second unit is commissioned in April 2015 with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt. The Commercial Operation Declarations were accomplished magnificently for First Unit on 18 June 2015 and for Second Unit on 29 August 2015.

The nearest airport is tuticorin airport, which is a domestic airport located at about seventeen kilometer from the Tuticorin city of Tamil Nadu.
