Kutch Thermal Power Station
Kutch Lignite Thermal Power Station is State Electricity Corporation's only lignite based power plant. The Power Station is erected near to Panadhro village in the Lakhpat Taluk of Kutch district in the state of Gujarat, India. The plant is near to lignite coalfields (run by Gujarat Mineral Development Corporation) and obtains lignite straight from the coalmines. There are four units presently in operation.
Kutch Lignite Thermal Power Station is commissioned in March 1990. The Approved Capacity of this thermal power plant is 290 Megawatt. The installed capacity is also 290 Megawatt. The status of this thermal power plant is Operational. The primary fuel used for the production of power in Thermal Power Plant is Lignite. The owner of this thermal power plant is Gujarat State Electricity Corporation limited. The beneficiary states of this power plant are Gujarat and its neighbouring states. The Unit Size of this thermal plant is 290 Megawatt (2 unit x 70 Megawatt & 2 unit x 75 Megawatt).
There are four units in Operation. They are Unit 1, Unit 2, Unit 3 and Unit 4. First, Second and Third Units was commissioned under Stage 1. The fourth unit is commissioned under Stage 2. The first unit is commissioned in March 1990, with an installed capacity of 70 Megawatt. Similarly the second unit is commissioned in March 1991, with an installed capacity of 70 Megawatt. The third unit is commissioned in March 1997, with an installed capacity of 75 Megawatt and the fourth unit is commissioned in December 2009, with an installed capacity of 75 Megawatt.

The employees of power station will guide the students about the commissioning, construction, processing, planning, procuring and project Management. This provides an opportunity for the students to learn practically through interaction, operation and practices. By visiting this Kutch Lignite Thermal Power Station, students would understand how the power is generated from thermal energy that is produced from coal. Also they would understand, how they get coal from lignite coal mines, which is grinded to fine particles for burning. Burning results in generation of Steam, which is inputted to the generators, which results in the generation of power.
How to Reach: Kutch Lignite Thermal Power Station is located in the Panadhro village of the Lakhpat Taluk in the district of Kutch. You can arrive this thermal power station by Road, Rail or Air. Transport Buses and Taxi services are available from the nearest cities and towns to the Thermal Power Station. Kutch does not have a railway station. Its nearest railway station is Bhuj Railway Station, which is located at about 70 kilometres away from Bhuj. Bhuj is a well-connected railway network, which connects to various railway stations of the country. Also the nearest airport to Kutch is Bhuj Airport, which is located at about 53 kilometers away from Power Station
