Koradi Thermal Power Station

Koradi Thermal Power Station (KTPS) is sited at the Koradi town in the district of Nagpur in Maharashtra. The power station initiated operations in 1974 and is one among the nine vigorous power plants functioned by Mahagenco, which is a part of State Government owned Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB). The plant runs 8 units and has an over-all capacity of 1700 Megawatt.

Koradi Thermal Power Station otherwise called as KTPS is commissioned in sixth June of 1974. The approved capacity of this thermal power plant is 2400 Megawatt. The installed capacity of this thermal power plant is also 2400 Megawatt. The status is operational. The source of coal for the production of power is from Western Coalfields Limited. Whereas the source of water is from the water reservoir of Totaladoh hydroelectric power station. The primary fuel used is Coal. The thermal power plant has a closed cycle with cooling tower. Koradi Thermal Power Station is owned and operated by the Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited. The beneficiary states of this thermal power plant are Maharashtra and its neighbouring states. The unit sizes (Operational) of this thermal power plant are Unit 6 to Unit 10 (2 x 210 Megawatt + 3 x 660 Megawatt).

There are four stages completed for this Koradi Thermal Power Station. Stage 1 has unit 1 to unit 4. Stage 2 has only the fifth unit. Stage 3 has Unit 6 and Unit 7. Finally the Stage 4 has 3 units from Unit 8 to Unit 10. The Unit 1 to Unit 5 are now Not Operational and the units from Unit 6 to Unit 10 are operational. The first unit is commissioned in 1974 June with an installed capacity of 115 Megawatt. The second unit is commissioned in 1975 March with an installed capacity of 115 Megawatt. The third unit is commissioned in 1976 March with an installed capacity of 115 Megawatt. The fourth unit is commissioned in 1976 July with an installed capacity of 115 Megawatt. The fifth unit is commissioned in 1978 July with an installed capacity of 200 Megawatt. The sixth unit is commissioned in 1982 March with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. The seventh unit is commissioned in 1983 January with an installed capacity of 210 Megawatt. Consecutively the Unit 8, Unit 9 and Unit 10 is commissioned in December 2015, November 2016 and March 2017 respectively with an installed capacity of 660 Megawatt for each unit.
