Kishanganga Hydropower Project
Kishanganga Hydroelectric Project is commissioned in 2018. The approved and installed capacity of power plant is 330 Megawatt. The project type is Major. Since it is greater than 25 Megawatt. The status of power plant is completed and are functional. The water source for power generation is Kishanganga River. The basin of power plant is Indus River. The power plant is situated in the North Hydroelectric Region. The power plant is owned and operated by National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited, which is an undertaking of Central Government.
The Beneficiary states of the thermal power plant are Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu Kashmir. The type of power house is underground. The power project was completed in 2018. The type of Turbine used in the hydroelectric power plant is Pelton and the manufacture of Turbine is BHEL India. Also the manufacturer of Generator in the plant is BHEL India.
The unit sizes of power plant is 330 Megawatt i.e., 110 Megawatt x 3 units. The total number of units in the power station is three and all the three units are commissioned. The first, second and third units are commissioned in the month of March in 2018 itself with an installed capacity of 110 Megawatts for each units. The date of Commercial Operation of the three units are 18 May 2018, 24 May 2018 and also in 24 May 2018 respectively.
The type of Dam is Concrete face Rock fill dam. The rated speed of Generator is 375 rpm and the direction of rotation of power plant is Clockwise. The runaway speed of Generator is 680 rpm. The type of Power house is Underground, which has 3 generating units of 110 MW each.
How to Reach: The power plant is located in the Kralpora village in the Bandipore district of Jammu and Kashmir. You can visit this hydroelectric power station by travelling via Rail, Road or Air. You will get Transport bus services or Auto-taxis from the nearby cities and towns to the Power Station. Also the nearest rail head is Jammu, which is 370 Km away from the power station. And the nearest Airport is Srinagar, which is 70 kilometer away from Power Station.
