Kakatiya Thermal Power Station is situated close to Chelpur village in the bhupalpally region of Warangal district of the Indian state of Telangana. The power plant is one among the coal fired power plants of Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited.

This power plant was constructed in 2 stages. The first stage contains one 500 Megawatt Unit. The unit was coordinated to grid with oil firing. Coal firing was instantly taken up and the load was elevated up to 84 Megawatt and the unit was in service with this load for around 1 hour. After five and a half year, the second stage which has an installed capacity of 600 Mega Watt is constructed.

Kakatiya Thermal Power Station was commissioned in May 2010. The approved capacity of thermal power plant is 1100 Megawatt. The installed capacity of the thermal power plant is also 1100 Megawatt for two units. The status of the thermal power plant is also Operational. The source of coal for the generation of power from this thermal power plant is Tadicherla Mines of Singareni. The primary fuel used is Coal. The type of Plant is State Government owned Corporation & State Public Sector Undertakings. The owner of the thermal power plant is Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited (TSGENCO). The Beneficiary states of this thermal power plant are Telangana and its neighbouring states. The Unit Sizes of this power plant is 1100 Megawatt (500 MW x 1 unit + 200 MW x 1 unit).

There are two units in operation. They are Unit 1 and Unit 2. In Stage 1, the first unit is commissioned in May 2010 with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt. And in Stage 2, the second unit is commissioned in January 2016 with an installed capacity of 600 Megawatt.
