Kadana Hydro Power Station

Kadana Dam is an earthen and masonry dam on the Mahi River in Mahisagar district of Gujarat, India. The dam was constructed between 1979 and 1989. Kadana Hydro Power Station is commissioned in 1990 March 31. The approved capacity of this hydro power plant is 240 Megawatt. The installed capacity is also 240 Megawatt. The status of this hydro power plant is Operational. The source of water for the working of hydro power plant is obtained from the Kadana Dam of Mahi River. The Kadana Hydro Power Station is owned and operated by the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited. The beneficiary states and Union Territories of this hydro power plant are Gujarat and its neighbouring states/ union territories. The unit size of this thermal power plant is 240 Megawatt (4 unit x 60 Megawatt). There are four units in operation and they are from Unit 1 to Unit 4. All the units of Kadana Hydro Power Station is built by the BHEL (Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited).

In first stage, two units (first and second units) are commissioned, whereas in second stage, two more units are commissioned (third and fourth units). The first unit is commissioned in 1990 March 31 with an installed capacity of 60 Megawatt. Whereas the second unit is commissioned in 1990 September 02 with an installed capacity of 60 Megawatt. The third unit is commissioned in 1998 January 03 with an installed capacity of 60 Megawatt. After that the fourth unit is commissioned in 1998 May 27 with an installed capacity of 60 Megawatt.

About Kadana Dam: The name of dam is Kadana Dam, which is located in the state of Gujarat. The Type of Dam is Earthen and Masonry constructed Dam. The nearby city to Dam is Santrampur. The aim of constructing this type of Dam is for Agriculture, Power Generation, and Irrigation and also for flood prevention during Rainy Season. The construction of this dam is started in 1979 and completed in 1989. It was inaugurated and opened to public in 1989. The height of the dam is around 66 metres and also the length of dam is 1551 metres. The total number of spillway gates in the Dam are 27 and the type of spillway gate is Radial. The project established in this Dam is Kadana Irrigation Project.
