NOBEL PRIZE

  • The Nobel Prize was established in 1895 as per the will of Swedish chemist Alfred Nobel.

THE MAN BOOKER INTERNATIONAL PRIZE

PULITZER PRIZE

  • U.S. publisher, Joseph Pulitzer instituted Pulit-zer Prize in 1917.
  • Pulitzer prize is conferred annually in the United States for accomplishment in journalism, literature and music.
  • Jumpha Lahiri is the first Indian woman to receive Pulitzer Prize. She won 2000 pulitzer for her book Interpreter of Maladies.
  • Vijay Seshadri Indian born US Writer won the prestigious 2014 Pulitzer Prize in the poetry category for his collection of poems 3 sections published in 2013.

RIGHT LIVELIHOOD AWARD

  • The Right Livelihood Award was established in 1980 by European Writer Jakob Von Uexkull.
  • The award is presented on December 9 at Riksdag of Sweden.
  • The Award referred to as the Alternative Nobel Prize.
  • The first Indian organisation to win the Right Livelihood Award is Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA, 1984).

  • First winner of Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding is U Thant in 1965.

THE KALINGA PRIZE

  • The Kalinga Prize for the popularization of science was established by the UNESCO in 1951.
  • It is an annual international award of one thousand pound sterling. It is mainly given after a grant to UNESCO from Mr. Biju Patnaik (Orissa, India), who was the founder president of Kalinga Foundation Trust.
  • The prize is awarded in October-November in Paris, France in odd years and in New Delhi in even years.
