Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project

Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project is located at Jharli village, which is situated at the north of the plant in the Jhajjar district of Haryana. This coal fired power plant is developed by Aravali Power Company, a joint venture company by the groups of NTPC, HPGCL and Indraprastha Power Generation Company Limited, Delhi (IPGCL). It is the biggest thermal power plant sited in the state of Haryana. Also the construction of a 2 x 600 Megawatt is proposed in the second stage in 2010, but it is later abandoned.

Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project is commissioned in 2010 October. The Approved Capacity of the super thermal power plant is 1500 Megawatt and the installed capacity is also 1500 Megawatt. The status of the power station is Mega Power Project. The Source of coal for the generation of power from Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Plant is from Mahanadi Coalfields Limited. The source of water for cooling the plant is Make up water from Jawahar Lal Nehru feeder canal. The primary fuel used is Coal. The power plant is owned and operated by three corporations. They are Haryana Power Generation Corporation (25 percent equity sharing), National Thermal Power Corporation (50 percent) and Indraprastha Power Generation Company Limited (25 percent). The beneficiary States of the thermal power plant are Haryana and its neighbouring states.

The unit sizes of the thermal power plant are 1500 Megawatt (500 Megawatt x 3 units). There are three units in Operation and they are from Unit 1 to Unit 3. In Stage 1, all the three units from Unit 1 to Unit 3 are commissioned. The first unit is commissioned in 2010 October with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt. The second unit is commissioned in 2011 November with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt. Finally, the third unit is commissioned in 2012 March with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt. In Stage 2, the fourth and fifth units are proposed with an installed capacity of 660 Megawatt for each units. But it is later abandoned.
