Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited otherwise called as HPGCL is a power generating corporation undertaken by the State government of Haryana. HPGCL is established as a company on March 1997. The total installed capacity of HPGCL from both the thermal and hydel power project as on 2016 is around 4850 Megawatt.

It has been delivered with the charge of setting up of new generating stations in state of Haryana. HPGCL is an ISO and OHSAS Certified company. The certification were awarded to the HPGCL by BSI. Currently Haryana Power Generation Corporation limited had five power stations and projects. Also in the future, an atomic power project and extensions of PTPS and DCRTPP are proposed.

1. Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant Yamunanagar

Deenbandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Plant is located in the Yamunanagar district of Haryana. The power plant has an installed capacity of 600 Megawatt. The power plant was commissioned in 14 April 2008. There are two units in operation with an installed capacity of 300 Megawatt for each units.

2. Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project

Indira Gandhi Super Thermal Power Project is located in the Jhajjar district of Haryana. The power plant has an installed capacity of 1500 Megawatt. The power plant was commissioned in 26 April 2013. There are three units in operation with an installed capacity of 500 Megawatt for each units.

3. Panipat Thermal Power Station

Panipat Thermal Power Station is erected in the panipat district of Haryana. The power plant has an installed capacity of 440 Megawatt from 4 units in Phase 1 of Panipat Thermal Power Station. In Phase 2, the power plant has an installed capacity of 920 Megawatt from 4 units. The first phase of power plant was commissioned in 1979 November, whereas the second phase of power plant was commissioned in 1989 March.

4. Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Station in Hissar

Rajiv Gandhi Thermal Power Station is located in the Hissar city of Khedar. The power plant has an installed capacity of 1200 Megawatt from 2 units. Also the power plant is commissioned in 24 August 2010 with an installed capacity of 600 Megawatt for each units.

5. WYC Hydro Electric Station in Yamuna Nagar

Western Yamuna Canal, WYC Hydro Electric Station is located in the Yamuna Nagar district of Haryana. The power plant has an installed capacity of 62.40 Megawatts from 8 units. Also the power plant is commissioned in 29 May 1986.

Future Projects

  1. A 2800 Megawatt atomic power project is planned at Gorakhpur in the district of Fatehabad, by the Nuclear Power Corporation of India. The power plant would have 4 units with an installed capacity of 700 Megawatt for each units. The land acquisition was completed and the construction of Phase 1 (700 Megawatt x 2 units) is to be completed by the year 2020 – 2021 at an expected cost of about INR 20600 crores.
  2. 1 unit x800 Megawatt Capacity Power plant with high efficiency technology of Supercritical Thermal Unit at Panipat Thermal Power Station is by the way of instantaneous phasing out of old and less effective Units from first to fourth (units) of Panipat Thermal Power Station.
  3. 1 unit x 800 Megawatt capacity power plant with high efficiency technology of supercritical Thermal Unit at the district of Yamuna Nagar as an expansion of 2 units x 300 Megawatt, in Deen Bandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Project, Yamuna Nagar. The Commissioning of the power plant is likelyto be done in 13th plan.
