Chutak Hydroelectric Project

Chutak Hydroelectric Project is on the river Suru and the basin is Indus River. Chutak Hydroelectric Project is commissioned in 08 November 2012. It has an approved and installed capacity of 44 Megawatt. The type of Project is Major, since the capacity of power plant is greater than 25 MW. The status of power plant is completed and are Operational. The source of water for the generation of power is Suru River and the basin is Indus River. The power plant is located in the North Hydroelectric Region. The purpose of project is the production of hydroelectric power. The project is owned and functioned by the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation. The hydroelectric development type of plant is Run of the River. The Structure type of power house is Barrage.

The installed capacity per Turbine is 11 MW. So the total installed capacity is 44 MW. The manufacturer of Turbine and Generator in the power plant is Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited of India. The height of Rated Head of Turbine is 52 m. Also the Specific speed of turbine is 266.6 rotations per minute. The total number of penstock in the plant are four and the length of each penstock is 16 metre.

The Unit Sizes of the power plant is 44 Megawatt (4 units x 11 MW). There are 4 units in operation and all the units are commissioned. The first unit is commissioned in 08 November 2012 with an installed capacity of 11 MW. Similarly the second, third and fourth units are commissioned in 11 November 2012, 22 November 2012 and 28 January 2013 respectively with an installed capacity of 11 Megawatt for each units.

How to Reach: Chutak Hydroelectric Project is located in the Chutak village of Kargil district (Ladakh region) in the state of Jammu and Kashmir in India. You can arrive this destination via Road. The power station is located at about 224 km from the state's summer capital, Srinagar. There is no airport and railway station in the district.
