Budge Budge Thermal Power Station

Budge Budge Thermal Power Station is a coal fired thermal power plant situated at Achipurvillage of Budge Budge town in the district of South 24 Parganas in West Bengalof India. The power plant is owned and operated by the Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation Limited. This project was introduced in the year 1997 and at the beginning, it was controlled by Mr. Samir Gopal, who was the Superintendent of the Planning head ofCalcutta Electric Supply Corporation Limited. It is one among the top power plants in Asia. It was now under the control of RP Goenka group.

The name of the project is Budge Budge Thermal Power Project. The first Commission Date of Power Project is 16 September 1997 and after that over a decade, two more units are commissioned. So there are totally three units in operation. The approved capacity of this thermal power plant is 750 Megawatt. The installed capacity is also 750 Megawatt. The status of power plant is operational. The source of water, which is the coolant of thermal power plant is Hooghly River. The primary fuel used is Coal and the secondary fuel is Fuel Oil. The type of plant is Sub Critical Thermal power plant. The Boiler Manufacturer is Russia and the Turbine Manufacturer is also Russia. The owner and operator of this thermal power projectis Calcutta Electric Supply Corporation. The beneficiary states of this thermal power plant are West Bengal and its nearby states. The shareholders of this plant are RP SanjivGoenka Group. The activity of this thermal power plant is started since 1997.

The Unit Sizes of this thermal Power Plant is 750 Megawatt (3 unit x 250 Megawatt). There are three units in operation. They are Unit 1, Unit 2 and Unit 3. The first unit is commissioned in 16 September 1997 with an installed capacity of 250 Megawatt. The second unit is commissioned in 06 March 1999 with an installed capacity of 250 Megawatt. Finally, the third unit is commissioned in 29 September 2009 with an installed capacity of 250 Megawatt.
