Bhavnagar Lignite Thermal Power Station (BLTPS)

Bhavnagar Lignite Thermal Power Station (BLTPS) otherwise called as Padva Thermal Power Station is a coal-based thermal power plant situated in the Padva village near Ghogha town in the district of Bhavnagar in Gujarat. The power plant is owned and operated by the Bhavnagar Energy Company Limited, which is under the control of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, who are carrying out this venture.

The Bhavnagar Lignite Thermal Power Station is commissioned in July 2016. The approved capacity of this thermal power plant is 500 Megawatt. The installed capacity is also 500 Megawatt. The status of this thermal power plant is Under Construction. The environmental clearance for the power station is obtained in 2010. The source of coal used for the production of power is Local Lignite. The primary fuel used in the thermal power plant is Lignite. The type of thermal power plant is circulating fluidized bed. The Bhavnagar Lignite Thermal Power Station is owned and operated by the Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited. The beneficiary states of this lignite based Thermal Power Plant are Gujarat and its neighbouring states.

The unit size of this thermal power plant is 500 Megawatt (2 units x 250 Megawatt). There are two units commissioned in Stage 1. They are Unit 1 and Unit 2. The first unit is commissioned in July 2016 with an installed capacity of 250 Megawatt. Similarly, the second unit is commissioned in March 2017 with an installed capacity of 250 Megawatt.

Bhavnagar Lignite Thermal Power Station is also a favourite destination for students who are doing researches on Power Generation. Students preferably doing researches on the topic of Power Generation can visit this thermal power station as a part of their study tours. The employees of the power station will guide you to study more about generation of power. The working of Bhavnager Lignite Thermal Power Plant is so simple. Firstly coal is extracted from lignite mines, which is then grinded to fine particles. It is then burnt in the plant, so that the steam is generated. The Steam Turbine will convert the steam into kinetic energy and with the help of a rotary generator, the plant will convert the mechanical energy inside the plant to electrical energy. This electrical energy is distributed to the consumers via Power Stations.

How to Reach: The Bhavnagar Lignite Thermal Power Station is located in the Padva village of Ghogha tehsil in the district of Bhavnagar in Gujarat, India. You can arrive this thermal power station via Road, Rail or Air. Local Buses and Taxi Services are available in the nearest cities and towns to the power station. Ghogha Railway Station is the nearest well connected railway station, which is located at a distance of seventeen kilometres away from the Power Station. Bhavnagar Airport is located at about 28 Kilometres away from the Bhavnagar Energy Company Limited Power Station via GJ State Highway 37 to of Padva of Ghogha.
