Aditya Aluminium Power Plant

Aditya Aluminium Power Plant is a captive 900 MW power plant erected at Lapanga in the Sambalpur District of Odisha. It is a subsidiary of Hindalco's Smelter power project in Odisha. It has captive coal from Talabira-2 coal block, which is a joint venture between the coal mines of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited and Neyveli Lignite Corporation Limited.

Hindalco Industries transferred the contract of power plant to Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited for main package in June 2009. Aditya Aluminium Power Project is a 6 x 150 Megawatt power project with one of its kind with boiler and Turbo generators designed by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited exactly for this project.

Aditya Aluminium Power Plant is commissioned in 2013. The approved capacity of the thermal power plant is 900 Megawatt and the installed capacity of the thermal power plant is also 900 Megawatt. The status of the power plant is Operational. The primary fuel used is Coal. The source of coal for the generation of power is from IB Valley, coal blocks Talabira II and III. The type of plant is Sub Critical. The Aditya Aluminium Power Plant is owned and operated by the Hindalco Industries Limited. The beneficiary states of this thermal power plant are Odisha and its neighbouring states. The approved investment on the project is 4015 Crores.

The Unit Sizes of the power project is 900 Megawatt (150 Megawatt x 6 units). There are five units in operation and they are from Unit 1 to Unit 5, which are built under Stage 1. All of the units from first to fifth units are commissioned in 2013 itself with an installed capacity of 150 Megawatt for each units. In Stage 2, an additional 150 Megawatt for the fifth unit is proposed and is yet to be commissioned.
